The Great Deity Shiva
· Intro
Introducing Shiva and the many Vedic books that he was mentioned in. (Rgveda, Starudriya, Mahadharata) There many stories of Shiva and he is in many of the great literatures of ancient India. In fact he is one of the most well known deities.
· The first signs of Shiva.
Shiva was known to be around the earliest times of the Indian society. Statues where found in ancient homes of the earliest civilizations of India. The figures resemble Shiva.
· Shiva was said to be involved in the yoga teachings.
1. Yoga schools call him the supreme soul.
2. King Asvatara and his brother play Shiva seven songs
3. The relationship between him and King Asvatara how he as ask Shiva to restore his daughter Madalasa.
4. How he was described to have three eyes and sits in the lotus position.
· There are records of the dances of Shiva.
1. The fight with the demon Danavas.
2. How he uses a sword in the art of war and dance poses.
3. In the Vamana Purana he dances in the fight against the gods versus the demons.
4. Here he is described to have three eyes and eighteen arms but he uses a lance to fight.
· Shiva gets married.
1. He gets married to parvati.
2. There are many stories about how the wedding takes place. In the Matsya Purana the story of the wedding is described like a happy fairy tale. With the gods Vishnu and Brahma in attendance to the wedding.
· Shiva also has a story saying that he helped in the creating of the great rivers of India.
1. Its starts with the relationship with the Ganga.
· Describing the defeat of the demon Andhaka.
· Shiva and the myths of him being a female.
1. Decsibed to have a feminine shape in many of his statues.
2. How the male and female parts had different meanings. Shiva had the female part turned into a daughter.
3. There are many different stories about Shiva’s female parts.
· The other adventures of him and his wife on the mountain Kailasa.
There are also many different random stories about Shiva having a son here. Other stories say that he was just living on the mountain.
· Mahadeva
1. It is said to be the final image of Shiva.
2. Shiva was described to have many faces and body types.
3. There are also many stories about how each face and body meant something different .the way on of the heads was facing or his whole body facing a certain way or in a different potion. Each meant something different.
